Abdi holds a PhD in System Dynamics. He is currently leading the entire Somali Health and Demographic Survey process—planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating to ensure its success. He works closely with the Ministries of Planning and Health in Puntland, Somalia. In addition to being responsible for the creation of the three-year Statistics Strategic Plan (2019-2021), which provides a roadmap and direction on key priorities aligned with Puntland State's development policy, he also developed the Statistics Act Bill for the Ministry of Planning in Puntland. Abdi is a member of three professional bodies: the Royal Statistical Society, the Operational Research Society, the UK North West Research Network, and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
