About Us

SIDRA is a registered non-governmental, not-for-profit institution for research and analysis, policy support, development projects planning and implementation based in Somalia. The Institute was established in 2015.

SIDRA provides quality research and development services to the public and private entities in Somalia. It offers technical innovative solutions to key development issues facing Somalia through knowledge-based dialogue, research, independent analysis, insight and expertise in development projects from needs assessment, planning, design and implementation to output monitoring and impact evaluation. Our projects, research studies and policy support are centred on the three main thematic areas of: Good Governance and Rule of Law, Gender and Women’s Empowerment and Socio-economic Development.

SIDRA has two independent but interlinked arms of operation and service provision; 1) SIDRA Research Unit, 2) SIDRA Project Implementation Unit.

1. SIDRA Research Unit: Development Research and Policy Support

Development Research and Policy Support unit conducts research studies, policy reviews, and commentaries to contribute to the creation of knowledge and insight which informs and influences policy, best practice and decision making in both public and private spheres. Our policy-oriented research and analysis focuses on peace and reconciliation, rule of law and democracy, poverty eradication, gender equity, inclusion and women empowerment, education and girl child education, health, migration, economic development and growth and environment & energy.

This section collaborates with Project Management and Consultancy section on scoping studies, baseline studies, project needs assessment and research embedded project implementation.  The two sections share knowledge, expertise, tools and technology to achieve the optimize performance and achieve the most successful implementation, outcome and impact.

We publish all the research studies, policy briefs and commentaries on our website. We use international research publication platforms to disseminate our research findings.  

2. SIDRA PRIME: Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation

We provide project management and consultancy services to both government and non-governmental organisations. We take on assignments for government institutions, private sector and local and international partners, ranging from formative project evaluation (baseline studies, needs assessments, capacity needs assessment, feasibility studies, budgeting, etc), programme planning and design, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessments, accountability and learning projects, capacity building and skills training to project implementation.

We ensure that we offer the best project management and consultancy services to meet our partner organizations’ goals, missions and visions. We generate sound consultancy plans which clarify desired outcomes, reinforce common understandings and shared vision.

We provide a clear road-map for effective use of human, material, and financial resources while enabling our partners to track and document progress and successes with measurable indicators. We are keen on ensuring that lessons learnt and best practices from various programmes implemented by our clients and partners are well documented. We use a variety of approaches, methods and tools to carry out effective project/programme design, implementation and results follow up.
